Mounting your GPS to the handlebars of your dirt bike is fraught
with difficulty. OK to be honest you can quite happily zip tie
it place to your crossbar pad but if you've just spenf several
hundred pounds on your new toy you might want to consider something
more substantial.
There is a choice of Garmin
or Magellan own brand brackets or the more substantial Touratech
brackets.
Whichever bracket you use you really should have a permanent
power
supply to the unit rather than using the batteries. A cheap
cigarette lighter adapter is available from most car accessory
stores and it can be wired in permanently to a 12v supply.
Relying on batteries alone can cause problems. It must be the
knobbly tyres that are the problem. You can ride, jump, hit rocks
and slide around off tarmac and the batteries will power your
GPS just fine. But as soon as you return to the tarmac and you
get up to about 40-50mph the natural frequency vibration is reached
and will rattle the batteries sufficiently to make the unit cut
out as it thinks it's not getting any power. A permanent power
supply ensures a working GPS for as long as you are riding.
